A CHANCELLOR’S PROCLAMATION
MU International Day
International students, faculty and visiting scholars play significant roles at the University of Missouri on a daily basis. MU Chancellor Brady Deaton’s “priorities for action” include celebrating the diversity of our international university and increased engagement with our campus, state and global communities.
WHEREAS, the Missouri International Student Council (MISC), in collaboration with Missouri Students Association (MSA) and Graduate Professional Council (GPC), is proposing MU International Day to celebrate and promote international diversity and showcase cultures represented by the MU international community;
WHEREAS, it was resolved by the Missouri Students Association Senate and Missouri International Student Council General Assembly that the fourth Tuesday in September be designated as MU International Day;
WHEREAS, MU International Day serves three objectives: First, to recognize and promote awareness of international diversity of the MU community; second, to recognize and inform about the unique resources represented by the international community here at MU; third, to encourage students to seek out and to cultivate a global perspective, challenge preconceived notions, and become global citizens;
WHEREAS, the Missouri International Student Council will hold the “country flags ceremony” and many other international enrichment programs on the fourth Tuesday of September, as part of MU International day;
WHEREAS, the MSA International Programming Committee (IPC) will hold its annual International Bazaar, the largest outdoor international/cultural event on campus, on the fourth Tuesday of September as part of MU International day;
NOW, THEREFORE be it resolved that I, Brady J. Deaton, Chancellor of the University of Missouri, do hereby proclaim the fourth Tuesday of September to be established and recognized as MU International Day, beginning on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.
